She (1/1)

PAIRING: Callie/Erica of course, who else?

DISCLAIMER: The characters of Grey’s Anatomy belong to ABC and Shonda Rhimes. No copyright infringement intended.

SUMMARY: I love to let Callie sing in my stories. So this is another one of Callie singing for Erica. There are so many beautiful songs to use to write Callica fics around. This is one of them.  And it won’t be the last one I’ll write.

This is set out of the Grey’s Anatomy time line as we know it now. Erica never left Seattle because Izzie Stevens never happened.

NOTE: this is unbeta’d. So any mistakes are mine….

Callie was sitting alone on her bed.  In one hand she was holding a picture of Erica, in the other hand was a handkerchief.  She was clutching the picture against her heart and crying. She was crying uncontrollably.  As she tried to even her breathing, she remembered why she was crying…

“Why can’t you go to the Christmas party with me Callie?” Erica angrily asked.

“I just can’t, it’s too soon…”, she tried to explain.

Cal, we’ve been dating for seven  months now. Why don’t you want to come to the Christmas party as my partner?”

Callie knew this day would come, where she would have to come out of the bubble and face the reality of being in a relationship with Erica.  Erica was clearly comfortable with it.  And so was she, just not out in public.

“Erica, I already told you, I’m not ready to tell everyone yet.”

“When will you be ready, Callie?  I want to world to know that you are mine.  I want them to know how happy you make me. I want to take you out on public dates, hold your hand, kiss you, hug you whenever I want to. I love you Callie…”

Callie just stared at Erica, panic written all over her face. She couldn’t think straight anymore. She loved Erica too, she did, she just couldn’t say it. Because saying it would make it real and then she would have to acknowledge the fact that she loves a woman…

So she did what she always did when she didn’t know what to say or do anymore… she ran. She took her jacket and just left.

So now here she was sitting on her bed, a picture of Erica clutched to her heart.  She realised now that she had reacted foolishly.  The party was this evening and now she had to go alone.  The worst was she had no one to talk to about her feelings.  Erica was the one she talked to, but Erica surely wouldn’t want to talk to her anymore after last night.  The thought that she might have lost the only good thing in her life, made her cry even harder.

Suddenly the door to her room opened and Cristina entered her room.

“Torres, I’ve had it with your crying.”

Callie looked up.

She went over to Callie’s wardrobe and pulled out a dress.

“You’ll be wearing this dress to the party, so Hahn drools all over you and then you can have lots of make up sex afterwards. Now come on”, Cristina said.

“Wait, Cristina… what are you saying?”

“I’ve had it with you crying over Hahn. You will get dressed up and then you’ll make up again. Don’t look so surprised that I know.  You’ve both been like love struck teenagers for months, ogling one another secretly, really making me sick. But I prefer love struck teenager Callie to crying Callie, so get dressed. We leave in 30 minutes.”

And with that Cristina left Callie’s room.

An hour later they arrived at the party.  It was already crowded.  Callie looked for the blond familiar curls in the crowd. She spotted them a bit further. She was talking with Richard and Derek.  Erica looked stunning.  She wore a blue dress that made her eyes even look bluer and her hair even look blonder.

Suddenly Erica’s eyes locked with hers.  She looked so sad and hurt.

In that moment she knew what she had to do.  She tore away her eyes and went to the stage.  A band was playing soft music.  She signalled the band leader and whispered something in his ear.

Erica had followed Callie with her eyes and wondered what she was up to.  She went a bit closer to the stage when she saw that Callie was getting on stage.

“Hi everyone”, Callie started nervously, “I’m Dr. Callie Torres, but I think you all know me. You are probably all wondering what I’m doing her on stage.”

She looked around for Erica.

“I’m wondering that too, but there is something that I have to tell.  I got the luck to be gifted with a good singing voice, so instead of telling it, I will sing.”

She locked eyes with Erica. “This is for you.”

And she started singing, trying to convey her love for Erica.

May be the face I can't forget.
A trace of pleasure or regret
May be my treasure or the price I have to pay.
She may be the song that summer sings.
May be the chill that autumn brings.
May be a hundred different things
Within the measure of a day.

She saw the surprise in Erica’s eyes, but the surprise changed to shock and then to love.
She knew then she had taken the right decision.

May be the beauty or the beast.
May be the famine or the feast.
May turn each day into a heaven or a hell.
She may be the mirror of my dreams.
A smile reflected in a stream
She may not be what she may seem
Inside her shell

She who always seems so happy in a crowd.
Whose eyes can be so private and so proud
No one's allowed to see them when they cry.
She may be the love that cannot hope to last
May come to me from shadows of the past.
That I'll remember till the day I die

May be the reason I survive
The why and wherefore I'm alive
The one I'll care for through the rough and ready years
Me I'll take her laughter and her tears
And make them all my souvenirs
For where she goes I've got to be
The meaning of my life is

She, she, she

By the time she had finished singing, she was crying. She got off stage and went to Erica, who was crying too.  They stood looking at each other and then Erica opened her eyes.  Callie went to her and hugged her.  They looked at each other and Callie leaned forward to kiss Erica. She didn’t care that all her colleagues were standing there. She didn’t care that they would be talking about this for weeks.  She didn’t care that everyone knew now about them. She only cared about Erica’s lips on hers.  Erica was the only one that mattered to her, the only one that would ever matter to her.
