SUMMARY:  This story takes place six months, one week and six days after the final scene of Callie and Erica.

Thanks to superfy_me to beta this story for me.

The next day Dr. Callie Torres went to work, not just Dr. Torres, no, Dr. Callie Torres went to work.  For the first time since Erica had left her, she felt whole again. She entered the hospital with a smile on her face.  Even though she hadn’t slept last night, she had never felt better and more awake.  Erica, her Erica wanted her to come to San Francisco.  Erica had missed her just as much as she had missed Erica.  After having reread the letter several more times, Callie had written a letter back to Erica.

Cristina was the first to notice the smile on Callie’s face.

“Callie… you ‘re… smiling”, Yang said.

“Yes, I am”, Callie simply said and continued walking.

Cristina hurried after her.

“Wait, why are you smiling?”

Callie stopped and looked at Cristina.

“I’m resigning”, she said, as she set off walking again.

Cristina looked dumbfounded at Callie.

“Resigning?” she said to herself.

“Who’s resigning”, Meredith asked.

Callie knocked on the Chief’s door.

“Come in.”

Callie entered his office, her megawatt smile still fixed on her face. The Chief looked up.

“Dr. Torres, what can I do for you?”

Callie sat down across from him, handing her letter over to him. “I’m resigning.”

The Chief was just taking a sip of his coffee and it went down the wrong whole. He started coughing.

“Resigning…” cough “Callie…” cough “why…” he managed to get out.

“I’m applying for a position of Orthopaedic Attending at San Francisco Bay Hospital, sir”, Callie calmly said.

San Francisco? Why San Francisco?”

“Erica is there”, Callie spoke calmly.

“Erica as in Dr. Hahn you mean?”

Callie nodded.

“Okay. Good job you are still friends with her.”

“I love her.”

*Cough cough cough*

Callie got up from her chair.

“Are you okay, sir?”

Richard could only nod.

“You are a good doctor, Callie.  I’m sorry to see you go.”

“Well, you can blame Stevens. Her mess made Erica leave.” And with that Callie left his office.

Callie was standing at the nurses station to look at some charts.

“Is it true that you are resigning?” she heard a voice behind her say.

“Yes, Mark, it’s true.  I’m finishing my residency and then I’m gone”, Callie said, a smile spreading across her face.

Callie turned around and looked at Mark.  Ever since Erica had left Seattle she had shut herself off from everyone, Mark included.

“I got a letter from Erica”, Callie smiled.

“That explains the smile on your face then today. Give her my greetings when you see her.”

By the end of her shift, the entire hospital knew she had resigned and that she wouldn’t take the offered position as an Ortho Attending at Seattle Grace.

Callie sat down in the locker room and looked at the letter she had written to Erica.

Erica, my sweet Erica

I forgive you. But only if you forgive me for hurting you as well.

Didn’t take the open position of Attending here in Seattle so…

Love, Callie

PS: I’m wearing glasses too now…

Three days after Callie had sent the letter back to Erica, she received a postcard back from San Francisco.  The picture on the postcard said “From San Francisco with love” and it showed a sight of San Francisco seen through a pair of glasses.  Tears sprung to Callie’s eyes. She immediately knew that Erica had understood her comment about the glasses. She turned the card and saw that just a phone number was written on the back.

“Oh my god, it’s her phone number”, Callie cried out, “it’s her phone number.”

Cristina who was also in the apartment heard Callie crying out and rushed into the kitchen.

“What’s wrong, you’re yelling.”

“I got her phone number, Cristina, her phone number…” and Callie started sobbing.

Cristina Yang, who wasn’t good at any girly stuff at all, didn’t know what to do and she just stood there awkwardly, looking dumbfounded at Callie.

“I can call her now, hear her voice again…”

“Call who? Sorry you lost me. First you resign, now you are crying and talking about a phone number…”

Callie looked up and saw the confused expression on Cristina’s face.

“Erica….” Callie whispered softly.

“Oh… Dr. Hahn…”

“She sent a letter a few days ago. She misses me just as much as I miss her.  I’m going to San Francisco, Cristina. And now I have her phone number”, Callie smiled through her tears.

“Okay, as long as you don’t start crying again anytime soon …” and with that Cristina left the apartment.

Callie stared at the number on the postcard for a few minutes, eventually taking out her phone and dialling. She waited for two rings, and then the voice that she had grown to love and miss so much flooded her ears: “Hello…”
